Did You Know?

A Study on Dogs Showed the Difference Between Cotton and Polyester

In a veterinary study, male dogs were dressed in little pants made from either polyester or cotton and wore them daily for two years. What happened next surprised researchers:

  • Dogs in polyester pants had a major drop in sperm health. Their sperm count and movement went down, and many had abnormal sperm. Their testicles also showed signs of damage.

  • Dogs in cotton pants (and those who wore nothing at all) had no issues—everything stayed normal.

  • Once the polyester pants were removed, the dogs’ sperm health mostly bounced back within a year.

  • Scientists believe it wasn’t heat causing the problem, but rather electrostatic charges from the polyester fabric interfering with the dogs’ bodies.

In another test, patches of polyester actually slowed hair growth on dogs' skin, while cotton and wool didn’t have any effect
